On May 8, 2012 the opening ceremony of two new Rural Women Council offices in the communities of Archis and Teghut, Armenia was held. The ceremony was attended by the NGOs CENN and Green Lane, representatives of local government and community leaders and active women’s groups. The reconstruction of the offices was implemented by local community governance bodies (village municipalities). All necessary equipment – computers, a copying machine, a scanner, photo cameras – were provided to the new offices that will support and facilitate the work of the women’s groups and promote networking. The new offices will serve as a place where RWC members and representatives of the local population will be able to gather and discuss the problems existing in their villages. The ceremony was conducted within the framework of the regional project “Strengthening and Engagement of Rural Women in Natural Resources Management in the South Caucasus Countries”. The aim of the project is to ensure sustainable development through effective resource management, gender equality, transparency and participatory approach on local, national and regional levels. The initiative is implemented by the financial support of EED.
