On February 23, 2018 on the occasion of the construction of the Afghan section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipelinecelebrations were held on the southern border of Turkmenistan. There was also a ceremony of laying down power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication on the route Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP), as well as the launching of the exploitation of theSerhetabat (Turkmenistan) -Turgundi (Afghanistan) railroad.
The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the President of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, the Pakistani Prime Minister ShahidHakanAbbasi and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of India MobasharJaved Akbar took part in the celebrations.
While delivering a speech at the solemn ceremony, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that after the completion of the TAPI gas pipeline with a length of 1,840 kilometers, it will be possible to deliver 33 billion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas to consumers annually. Consequently, this will contribute to the sustainable social and economic development of the countries of the region, ensuring their energy security.
The Turkmen Leader also informed the participants of the ceremony that the Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan had recently re-built a railway with a total length of 13 kilometers - from the Turkmen station Serhetabat to the Afghan station Turgundi. With the implementation of this project, the volume of goods imported and exported from Afghanistan has significantly increased.
The Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, the Pakistani Prime Minister ShahidHakanAbbasi and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of India MobasharJaved Akbar also took speeches at the ceremony. They expressed deep gratitude to  Turkmenistan for the initiative to build the TAPI gas pipeline and noted the importance of this project for the social, economic and humanitarian development of the states of the whole region.
Then, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov launched the construction of the Afghan section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, the power line and the fiber-optic communication line Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan, and gave the start to theexploitation of the new Serkhetabat-Turgundi railway.
Afterwards, the Heads of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, the head of the government of Pakistan and the state minister for foreign affairs of India left for the Afghan city of Herat, where solemn events had been organized by the Afghan party. Speaking at the ceremony, the Turkmen Leader noted that the beginning of laying the next stage of the TAPI gas pipeline, the power transmission line and the fiber optic line, and the construction of the Serhetabat-Turgundi railway demonstrate the responsible approach of the participating countries of these projects, their vision and commitment to cooperation.
