YEREVAN, OCTOBER 17, NOYAN TAPAN. The draft decision on the
results of the study of falsifying prices in the wheat and flour
market was discussed at the October 17 sitting of the RA State
Commission on Protection of Economic Competition.
As a result of the commission's monitoring of several shops
in Yerevan, some disproportionate changes, as compared with
international prices, in the sale prices of wheat flour were
revealed. The sudies showed that the average price of 1 kg of
high-quality flour made 387 drams in May 2008, 385 drams in
June, and 376 drams in July, while due to inflation in August
the price of 1k of flour reached 380-400 drams.
During the sitting, the commission decided to start studies
in the bread market, among the biggest bread producers. The
commission will also conduct studies in the railway commodity
transportation market.
Then the commission addressed the results of the studies of
the rice market, which were conducted based on monitoring,
according to which the prices were constantly going up in the
rice market.
The studies showed that Alex Grig company and private
businessman F. Karapetian made relatively large investments in
the rice market in the second half of 2008. A comparison of the
rice prices in international and domestic market indicated that
in Armenian shops, rice is sold at prices which exceed
1.7-2.5fold their cost price. Taking the market situation into
account, the commission made a decision to inform the RA State
Revenue Committee on the results of the proceeding to ensure a
proper filfilment of tax obligations. The RA Prosecutor
General's Office was also informed with the aim of discussing
the possible violations of the legislation by the companies that
stopped their activities.
