YEREVAN, OCTOBER 13, NOYAN TAPAN. The commodity transportation by general use transport declined by 9.2% to 5 million 831.1 thousand tons in Armenia in January-August 2008 on January-August 2007. According to the RA National Statistical Service, the commodity turnover by general use transport grew by 3% to 1 billion 859.5 million tonne-kilometers in the country in January-August 2008 on the same months of 2007. The passenger traffic by general use transport declined by 4.9% to 158 million 417 thousand passengers in January-August 2008 on January-August 2007. The passenger turnover by general use transport declined by 1.1% to 2 billion 460.5 passenger-kilometers in January-August 2008 on the same period of 2007. The number of road accidents increased by 13.7% in January-August 2008 on the same period of 2007 and made 1,370 accidents, as a result of which 246 people died (13.4% growth) and 2,006 were injured (16.2% growth). The revenues of the communication enterprises made 106 bln 103.3 mln drams or more than 346.5 million USD in current prices in January-August 2008, growing by 9.5% in comparable proces on January-August 2007.
