YEREVAN, OCTOBER 10, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenia will start
importing gas from Iran only in case of a need. At present it is
not known when a need to start the import of gas will arise, NT
correspondent was informed by spokeswoman for the RA ministry of
energy and natural resources Lusine Harutyunian.
She said that contrary to an earlier statement made by the
Iranian side, the import of Iranian gas into Armenia will not
begin on October 13. This decision was made as a result of
bilateral negotiations.
The completion of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline's
construction was announced in September. It is possible to
transport 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas through the pipeline a
year. Iran expressed a willingness to supply 1.1 billion cubic
meters of gas to Armenia in 2009. However, Armenia which
receives over 2 bilion cubic meters of gas from Russia annually
does not have yet a need for extra gas.
It was announced that Armenia must pay with electricity for
Iranian gas in the proportion of 3 kwh for one cubic meter.
