Armenia has won its first Excellence Medal at the "WorldSkills Shanghai 2026" international competition.
The 48th international competition of "WorldSkills International" has concluded in Shanghai, China, where Armenia participated with a national team in three skill areas: "Culinary", "Mobile Application Development", and "Fashion Technology."

Within the framework of the competition, Armenia's representative, Arsen Armenakyan, a graduate of the Yerevan State College of Vocational Education, under the guidance of expert-trainer Arbi Garakhanian, was awarded the "Excellence Medal" in the "Culinary" skill area. This is the first medal achievement in the history of Armenia's national team's participation in the "WorldSkills" competitions (having participated 6 times).

Arsen Armenakyan was also awarded the "Best of Nation" prize for being the best participant of the Armenian national team.

Other participants from the Armenian team also recorded high results. The participant in the "Mobile Application Development" skill, Aramayis Hayrapetyan from the Yerevan State College of Informatics, was only 14 points away from the "Excellence Medal," while Luiza Zakaryan, a participant in the "Fashion Technology" skill from the Franco-Armenian Educational Center, was 37 points away.

The selection of Armenia's representatives was based on the results of the national competition.

The participation of the Armenian national team in the competition is significant not only for the competitive results of the participants and experts but also for international professional cooperation, experience exchange, and the exploration of new approaches in vocational education and training.

Armenia has been a member of the "WorldSkills" international organization since 2012, represented by the National Center for Development of Vocational Education (NCDVE), which coordinates the implementation of membership and related functions.

Armenia was also represented at the official delegation level during the competition. Siranuş Meloyan, head of the Department for the Development of Vocational Education Policy and Strategy at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, participated as an official observer.

A three-day conference related to vocational education and training was also held within the framework of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, during which issues such as skills development, the impact of artificial intelligence on educational processes, the development of vocational education in line with changing labor market demands, and the expansion of international cooperation, as well as other issues related to vocational education, were addressed.
