YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 10, NOYAN TAPAN. The Institute of
Chemical Physics of the RA National Academy of Sciences (NAS)
signed a cooperation agreement with Sasun Investments company
(Canada), according to which this company will deal with the
issue of commercialization of a 5th generation
electrothermograph that is being designed at the institute, NT
correspondent was informed by Suren Kharatian, the head of the
self-propagating high-temperature synthesis kinetics laboratory
and the chemical physics chair of Yerevan State University.
According to him, the 5th generation electrothermograph is
being designed and made with resources of Sasun Investments, a
company headed by a Canadian Armenian businessman who previously
sponsored some programs of the institute.
In the words of S. Kharatian, the electrothermograph allows
to make 10-25 thousand measurements of physical and electric
parameters of a metal wire after heating it to the temperature
of 500-3,500 degrees centigrade, as well as to make electron
microscope analyses. The speaker noted that the
electrothermograph can mainly be used in material science,
inorganic chemistry, solid-state physics, and high-temperature
technics.
"No other device for studying and modelling
self-propagating high-temperature processes has been created by
anyone," the laboratory head said, adding that as compared with
the similar device of the previous generation, the
electrothermographer currently under design will not have
limitations in terms of measuring the duration of the process,
its frequency and recording its graphic presentation in the real
regime of time. With the aim of eliminating the indicated
limitations, some microprocessors to ensure connection with a
computer will be installed in the electrothermograph.
