YEREVAN, JANUARY 12, NOYAN TAPAN. New program of cooperation for coming several years will be signed between Armenian and Georgian Unions of Writers one of this days. Chairman of Union of Writers of Armenia Levon Ananian said this at the December 12 joint press conference with Chairman of Georgian Union of Writers Maghvala Gonashvili at the Urbat club. Levon Ananian said that in the recent years some steps have been already taken to encourage Armenian-Georgian literary ties. In particular, in 2006 days of Armenian and Georgian poetry were held in Armenia and Georgia. It was mentioned that "Anthology of Armenian Poetry" will be published in Georgian and "Anthology of Georgian Poetry" in Armenian this year. In Levon Ananian's words, literary ties were restored not only with Georgian, but also with Russian and Persian writers. In his words, this year Armenian writers' meetings will be organized with their Ukrainian, Romanian and Lebanese colleagues. The Chairmen of two countries' Unions of Writers also touched upon the issue of teaching literature in comprehensive schools. In L.Ananian's words, modern literature is ignored in Armenian textbooks, therefore the growing generation is not familiarized with modern writers. In L.Ananian's opinion, if it goes on like this, "we will lose the traditions of our national school by giving ourselves to reforms' Europeanization." In M.Gonashvili's words, unlike Armenia, works of modern Georgian writers are included in Georgian textbooks.
