YEREVAN, JANUARY 31, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. An exhibition under the title "Javakhk-Akhaltskha" opened on January 31 at the Armenian National Library. Books by Armenian writers of Javakhk, as well as periodicals published in Armenia touching upon problems regarding Javakhk and Armenians of Javakhk are presented by separate stands at the exhibition. According to Arushan Hakobian, Director of the "Vahan Terian" cultural center, through the exhibition an attempt to once again present the huge culture created by the people of Javakhk was made. "The people of Javakhk-Akhaltskha, Samtskhe-Javakheti region that has lived in awfully hard conditions for centuries, hasn't been unconcerned with the large culture the Armenian people has been creating," he mentioned. Levon Ananian, Chairman of the Writers' Union of Armenia, mentioned that the Armenian and Georgian writers haven't been cooperating for already many years and in order to fill this gap days of Georgian poetry will be held in May in Yerevan and days of Armenian poetry in October in Tbilisi. He considers that the age-old neighborhood between the Armenian and Georgian peoples will be restored through cultural events. According to Revaz Gachechiladze, Georgian Ambassador to Armenia, cultural events are necessary for Armenian and Georgian peoples as this contributes to strengthening and development of friendly relations. According to him, the Georgian government should do its best so as the Armenians living in Javakheti feel well as the further relations between the two peoples are conditioned by this.
