ARMENIAN CHESS-PLAYERS DEFEAT LEADERS

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 10, NOYAN TAPAN. The Armenian chess-players defeated the leading ones, Chinese men's team, with a score of 2.5 to 1.5 in the penultimate, 8th tour of chess team championship being held in the Israeali town of Beer Sheva. The Chinese men's team was at the top of the championship from the very start. In this tour 3 games ended in a draw and in the 4th game Karen Asrian defeated his competitor. The following results were registered in the rest of the games of the tour: Russia - China (women) 3-1, Ukraine - Israel 2.5-1.5, US - Cuba 2-2. The Georgian chess-players were free from the game in this tour. Before the 9th tour the Chinese men's team remains at the top gaining 21 out of 28 possible points. The Russian team (18.5 points) takes the second place, the Armenian team (16.5) the third place. In the last tour the Armenian national team will compete with the Cuba national team.
