YEREVAN, June 25 (Noyan Tapan). The American Chronos
classical quarter will perform at the "Aram Khachaturian"
concert hall of Yerevan June 29. The Yerevan concert of the
famous quartet that arrived in Armenia within the framework of
the "Prospects of the 21st Century" music festival has been
organized by the Music Information Center of Armenia. Manager
General of the festival Sona Hovhannissian told NT they started
negotiating with Chronos in 2001 but the agreement could be
reached only this spring. The quartet will be accompanied by
light and sound editors from the United States who will attand
to all the technical problems.
All the eight pieces to be performed at the concert have
been written specially for Chronos. One of them was ordered by
NASA. Chronos has turned the solar sounds recorded by NASA in
the space into music. By the way, S. Hovhannissian pointed out
the musicians of the quartet have performed the pieces of three
Armenian composers: Ashot Zohrabian, Avet Terterian and Tigran
Tahmazian, an Armenian composer from the United States also
ordered specially for Chronos. "We tried to negotiate the
quartet into performing one of the pieces of Armenian composers
in Yerevan, but they refused," Sona Hovhannissian said.
According to the festival manager, the tickets for the
quartet's concerts usually ranges between $200 and $1,000.
Anyway, taking into consideration the the current socio-economic
situation in Armenia, the Yerevan concert will be an
invitation-only one. Only a limited quantity of tickets will be
available for sale, the tickets' price ranging 3,000 to 15,000
drams.
