The Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs received the Mayor of Venice

On April 23 the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian received Giorgio Orsoni, the Mayor of Venice who is in Yerevan to participate in the events dedicated to the Yerevan World Book Capital 2012. Welcoming the guest, Minister Nalbandian noted that the Armenian people has unique historical similarities with Venice which is due to the presence of a rich Armenian cultural heritage in Venice and the centuries-old activities of the Mkhitarist Congregation. According to the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs, the visit of the RA President to Venice last year opened a new page in the relations between Yerevan and Venice which are practically implemented today. Expressing gratitude for the reception, Mayor Orsoni stressed the willingness of Venice’s authorities to expand the cooperation with Yerevan and added that his visit is aimed at the development of the interaction, as well. The interlocutors discussed issued related to the interaction in cultural and tourism sphere, as well as touched upon the perspective to bring Venice’s experience in doing small and medium business in Armenia. Minister Nalbandian thanked Mayor Orsoni for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Venice City Council in 1998, the Press, information and public relations department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia informs.
