EXPORTS FROM ARMENIA DECLINE BY 4.8%, IMPORTS INTO COUNTRY
GROW BY 36% IN JANUARY-AUGUST 2008 ON SAME PERIOD OF 2007

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 13, NOYAN TAPAN. In January-August 2008,
Armenia's foreign trade amounted to 1 trillion 13.2 billion
drams or 3 billion 308.9 million USD, including exports of 213.4
bln drams or 696.8 mln USD and imports of 799.8 bln drams or 2
bln 612.1 mln USD. The foreign trade balance was negative by
586.4 bln drams (1 bln 915.2 mln USD), the foreign trade balance
without cargos received as humanitarian aid was negative by
573.4 bln drams (1 bln 872.7 mln USD).
According to the RA National Statsitical Service, exports
from Armenia declined by 4.8%, while imports into the country
grew by 36% in January-August 2008 on the same period of last
year.
Exports from Armenia to CIS countries made 217 mln 732.6
thousand USD in January-August 2008, declining by 1.3% on the
same months of 2007, while imports from CIS countries into
Armenia made 692 mln 573.5 thousand USD, growing by 28.1%.
Exports to EU countries amounted to 391 mln 959.9 thousand
USD, growing by 9.6% as compared with January-August 2007,
imports made 723 mln 87.4 thousand USD, growing by 22.5%.
Exports from Armenia to other countries (besides CIS and EU
countries) made 87 mln 118.5 thousand USD (43.3% decline), while
imports from other countries into Armenia amounted to 1 bln 196
mln 391.6 thousand USD (51.6% growth).
