YEREVAN, OCTOBER 13, NOYAN TAPAN. The dates of supply of
the Iranian gas to Armenia have not been decided yet. The
Armenian and Iranian sides have reached an agreement on
supplying the Iranian gas to Armenia in case of necessity for
the Armenian side. There is no such necessity at the moment, NT
correspondent was informed by spokeswoman for the RA ministry of
energy Lusine Khachatrian.
To recap, in recent period the Armenian and Iranian sides
have been conducting negotiatons on the dates of delivery of the
Iranian gas to Armenia.
The RA minister of energy Armen Movsisian told reporters
earlier that the construction work of the gas pipeline will be
completed in early 2009. At the same time the minister did not
rule out that the work may finish in late 2008. By the agreement
between the appropriate departments of the two countries,
Armenia will supply electricity to Iran in exchange for Iranian
gas (3 kwh for a cubic meter of gas).
The construction of the first section of the Iran-Armenia
gas pipeline was completed in March 2007. The capacity of the
finished Meghri-Kajaran section makes 1.2 billion cubic meters
of gas annually. With the aim of increasing imports of Iranian
gas to Armania, construction of the second section of the
Iran-Armenia gas pipeline - the 150-km Kajaran-Ararat section
with a capacity of 2.3 billion cubic meters annually has begun.
