A NUMBER OF EVENTS TO BE HELD FOR PURPOSE OF PRESERVING
NON-MATERIAL CULTURAL HERITAGE OF ARMENIA

YEREVAN, MAY 3, NOYAN TAPAN. The schedule of events
proceeding from preservation of non-material cultural heritage,
protection of its viability was approved at the May 3 sitting of
RA government. It was mentioned that holding of the events will
contribute to coordination and regulation of problems related to
the sphere, formation of non-material forms of culture, their
regular development, formation of the respective legislative
field, as well as will create conditions for preservation of
non-material cultural heritage.
As RA Minister of Culture and Youth Affairs Hasmik
Poghosian informed journalists after the sitting, little
attention is paid to non-material cultural heritage in the
recent years. Non-material cultural heritage should be preserved
as much as material heritage. In her words, 27 events were
established by the conception. These events will be aimed at
preservation and protectiveness of non-material cultural
heritage. In particular, the respective law will be worked out
by the end of the year, as well as non-material heritage will
be inventoried, the respective manuals will be published and the
respective information base will be created. Besides, grants
will be provided to individual handicraftsmen, people's
handicraft centers will be created.
H. Poghosian also said that for implementation of the above
mentioned events 30 mln drams (nearly 83 thousand USD) will be
additionally provided in 2008, 52 mln in 2009, 60 mln drams in
2010.
