"HOPE AND HELP" AND "DEMOCRACY TODAY" NGOs SHOW ASSISTANCE
TO 87 VICTIMS OF TRAFFICKING

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN. On December 6, the
launching of a statistic booklet "Assistance to victims of
trafficking in Armenia: October 2003 - March 2007" was held in
the UN Armenian Office. The data of the "Hope and Help" and
"Democracy Today" NGOs, which are engaged in the issues of
victims of trafficking in Armenia and in providing assistance to
them, are presented in it. The United Nations Development
Program (UNDP) provided assistance to the above mentioned
organizations in publishing this booklet.
According to Yenok Shatvorian, the Chairman of the "Hope
and Help" NGO, in the above mentioned period of time medical,
psychological and legal assistance was shown to 87 victims of
trafficking, the majority of which is Armenians. 85% of people
suffered from trafficking in United Arab Emirates, Turkey and
Russia. 80% of them underwent sexual exploitation, 20% labor
exploitation. It was also mentioned that the majority of the
victims is aged 18-24 and 25% from 25 to 30.
